Rice water is the trend of the season, but it dates back to the ancient Heian period in Japan, when ladies were known to have beautiful, long hair that draped to the floor. Their secret was rice water.
Rice water contains inositol, an ingredient found in rice water, and is rich in vitamins B, C and E, and is loaded with starch. The starch from the rice coats the hair strands, giving your hair an extra body, shine, and a de-frizzing effect.
These combined nutrients boost hair growth and repair damaged hair from the inside out, leaving it silky, smooth, and healthy as can be.
What you need:
1 cup rice
1 cup water
How to make it:
Rinse and strain your rice to remove impurities.
Mix rice in fairly warm water, until water becomes cloudy.
Strain rice and keep your water on the side.
Cover with plastic wrap.
Let the rice water sit at room temperature for 12 -24 hours. (This step allows fermentation and the vitamins and minerals to come out.)
Refrigerate until youβre ready to use it.
N.B. Do not let your rice water sit at room temperature for more than 24 hours or it will go bad. Add your favorite essential oil, tea bag or lemon peel to your water to suppress the bad smell of rice.
How to use it:
Wash your hair with shampoo, and rinse as normal.
Take the rice water and massage it into your hair and scalp. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes to an hour.
Leave the rice water rinse in your hair for about half an hour before washing off again.
Warnings: Your hair will look brighter, thicker, fuller, smoother, and more manageable.
