Garlic Braised Tempeh

Yield: 4 servings


  • 12 oz of tempeh
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of apple juice
  • 4 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon tamari
  • optional additions: 1 teaspoon curry powder, juice of one lemon, cayenne pepper, etc.


  1. Cut the tempeh into 1-inch pieces and set aside.
  2. Bring all of the other ingredients to a boil. Taste and adjust seasonings to your liking.
  3. Add the tempeh and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook until almost all of the liquid is absorbed.
  1. Occasionally stir very gently. Be careful not to break the tempeh.
  2. Serve hot.
